Yard signs are an important part of election campaigns. Just seeing the candidates name here there and everywhere makes for name recognition when the voter is making their choice on the ballot.
But I think my friends offer a more important benefit to my campaign. Your neighbors trust you. So if you have my sign, it means you think I should be reelected, and your neighbors will be inclined to agree with you.
Even with frozen ground, we can put a sign in your yard. The volunteer who delivers the sign will carry a cordless electric drill, and drill two tiny holes in the frozen ground where the wire base of the sign goes into the ground.
